The Creation
The Balance of Gaia was founded in 2020 by Tiger Tarell and Sam Tarell in central Florida. The idea was sparked by a silly conversation about Pokemon, but with Animals instead. Since that conversation, Tiger Tarell has been committed to turning that simple idea into one of the greatest card games on Earth. One that beautifully combines his love for strategic fun, community, education, art, collectability, and story telling. Meanwhile his brother Sam, with backgrounds in both business and education, was the perfect business partner.
As kids Sam and Tiger grew up together constantly creating intricate games. They had spreadsheets and even made an entire website once for a fake basketball league that they made up. Into adulthood, Sam Tarell decided to pass up the opportunity to play college basketball and instead founded Hoop Brothers LLC, a basketball recruiting company whose first success was none other than Sam’s younger brother, Tiger. Sam went on to start his true passion, Divergent U, an alternative university for Entrepreneurs. And Tiger went on to play basketball at Lindenwood University in Illinois, majoring in Interactive Media and Web Design. It was there that his creative passions truly blossomed and he learned the design skills necessary to create Gaia.
After college, Tiger briefly moved to Los Angeles where a visit to the Sequoia National Forest gave him new inspiration in how truly magical nature is. Not long after that, Tiger moved back to Florida to live with his brother Sam, where The Balance of Gaia was conceptualized.
The Vision
A Strategic Playground
The primary intention of The Balance of Gaia is to be an incredibly fun strategic playground of life’s magical creatures. The idea is for Gaia to always be perfectly balanced in a way that gives players the opportunity to choose their favorite animals to play with, without sacrificing a competitive advantage. So while an Elephant is always a powerful addition to any deck, so is a squirrel, in its own way.
A Collectible Story
With so much life on Earth to represent, and with balance and excitement to uphold, Tiger decided to tell Gaia in the form of a story. Told by the release order of Creature and Habitat cards in Gaia. Tiger has plans for 11 ‘Sagas’, with each Saga introducing new concepts to the game. At this moment, our story takes place in the ‘Prologue’, a preview to the upcoming 11 Sagas, and a time for the seed of Gaia to establish its roots.
A Perfect Educational Tool
Gaia is a game of creativity, mathematics, reading comprehension, critical thinking, and strategic problem solving. Not to mention how much there is to learn about the Earth by just reading the nature facts on each card. Each Creature’s play style also parallels how that Creature exists in real life. In other words, Gaia is designed to passively raise intelligence by simply enjoying the game and collecting its cards.
An artistic Masterpiece
Art imitates nature, which is the one true perfect masterpiece. Gaia seeks to show its appreciation for nature and all of the art that represents it by always using real (non AI) art, paying the artists who create it, and always putting incredible intention into each card to ensure that each particular Creature is represented beautifully.
A Deep Connection to Earth
The word Gaia itself is the embodiment of Mother Nature. The Balance of Gaia is designed to pay its deepest respects and gratitude to the Earth. Every Plant, every Animal, and every Environment is made to honor the Earth. The connection is felt in The Balance of Gaia’s game play.
